Kievo-Pecherska Lavra. Being a national cultural and historical landmark, Lavra is certainly one of the main city attractions. It was founded in 1051 by two monks for strengthening and spreading the new religion - Christianity. This functioning monastery consists of numerous churches, towers, miles of underground tunnels (caves) with ancient crypts. |
St. Sofia Cathedral. The beautiful 13-domed church, built in 1037 by Prince Yaroslav the Wise, was named after the famous St. Sofia Cathedral located in Constantinople. Rich mosaics and frescos, many of which are still intact, make unforgettable impressions on the visitors. Since the first library and school of Kyevska Rus were located at the Cathedral, this monument still provides invaluable research materials for scientists. Highlights of Tour:
Enjoy an early breakfast at the hotel, then join your motor coach for a sightseeing tour of the ancient, gold-domed capital of Ukraine.
One of the oldest cities in Europe, Kiev predated Moscow by several centuries and St. Petersburg by nearly 1,000 years.
Your ride around the city will let you enjoy its broad boulevards, leafy parks and medieval monasteries perched majestically on bluffs above the Dnieper River.
The splendid rococo, baroque and art decor architecture gives Kiev a decidedly Western European flavour. The earliest settlements go back as far as the 1st century A. D., and by the 5th century Kiev was already an important commercial centre.
You will visit the monastery of the caves and St. Sofia's Cathedral, have some free time to explore St. Andrew's Cathedral, and enjoy a cruise on the Dnieper River which leaves from the old Kiev artesian area of Podol.
Return to the hotel for a lunch and, if time permits, you can browse in the hotel gift shop. |
